Our Mission Critical Systems Center of Excellence leverages our software, electronics, and mechanical expertise to address our clients’ challenges. The Center of Excellence functions as a true engineering office, capable of harnessing the latest technologies through R\&D projects, then designing prototypes and industrializing them via dedicated laboratories and production lines.

Our solutions

Electronic Control Units

Developing an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) requires cutting-edge technologies and advanced technical expertise. At Scalian, we integrate high-performance components such as Xilinx (AMD) FPGAs, renowned for their flexibility, computational power, and reliability in constrained environments.

These reconfigurable architectures enable us to optimize real-time processing, enhance fault tolerance, and ensure secure communications. Coupled with our specialized test benches and embedded software expertise, our ECU solutions meet the most stringent requirements while offering scalability to tackle tomorrow’s challenges.

 

Generic Test Benches

We aimed to design a test solution for controllers and circuit boards that provides our clients with a reliable, easy-to-deploy, and cost-effective tool. Leveraging our strong expertise and experience in testing embedded equipment, boards, and components, our electronics lab developed a scalable hardware and software solution using commercial off-the-shelf products.

Our hardware and software solution covers a broad range of tests and is suited for industrial environments such as aerospace, automotive, defense, space, and railways. Based on a PXI platform, it offers at least 256 multiplexed test points on measurement instruments (multimeters, counters, oscilloscopes, etc.). The test bench supports a wide array of communication buses required to interface with the system under test. The development and execution environment uses National Instruments technologies, simplifying test software creation through business functions (test report generation, comprehensive action logging, self-testing, and more).

 

Avionics

Our long-standing expertise in the aerospace sector has earned us strong recognition from our clients over the years. Given the inherent complexity of this field, we have developed two specialized tools tailored to avionics:

  • EDAT: A dedicated software suite for dataloading, used for downloading and reconfiguring avionics control units.
    Developed since 2008, EDAT is a comprehensive software package for loading and unloading data compliant with major avionics standards (A615-3 and A615A). It features advanced capabilities allowing both manual and automated validation of dataloading compliance by the control units, adhering strictly to ARINC standards.

  • EBTF: A software suite dedicated to monitoring the health status of avionics control units.
    Developed since 2005, EBTF simulates the CMS function in accordance with the ABD100 1.4 standard to test the conformity of BITE communications from the EBTF. It supports both normal and interactive modes.

Dronautics

Whether industrial, civil, or military, drones have become indispensable today. Companies are eager to experiment with drones to define their own use cases. We support them throughout these projects. From hardware selection to operational flight testing, our teams master the entire value chain.

Flagship use cases

NARANG testing facilities

NARANG is a project involving several advanced testing facilities for the manufacturing, maintenance, and operational support of an aerial refueling system designed for military aircraft.

We designed a portable test device housed in a casing capable of withstanding extreme field conditions (saline atmosphere, shocks, vibrations). This tool allows armed forces to interact directly with the system’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU). Additionally, we developed a customizable test bench featuring an ergonomic user interface and optimized test scenarios. To ensure enhanced safety, a LabVIEW RT embedded program was implemented. Thanks to these innovations, NARANG provides reliable solutions tailored to the stringent requirements of military aerospace.

Test bench Kineis Argos

Created in 2018, Kinéis is a new French space player, satellite operator, and global connectivity provider for the Internet of Things (IoT). In 2024, as part of the Argos system — a historic satellite-based localization and data collection system — Kinéis launched a constellation of 25 nanosatellites.

For validating the constellation’s performance, we developed a test bench to evaluate and qualify the payload. This test bench manages RF links by simulating ground events, including VDES-AIS transmitters and all generations of Argos beacons (8 modulations). It also enables the generation and transmission of remote control commands, as well as the acquisition and demodulation of the telemetry link and the ARGOS downlink channel.
