One year later, where is this project?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"type-h3\"><strong>First of all, why restore peatlands?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Peatlands are unique and essential ecosystems. Although they cover only 3% of the Earth&#8217;s surface, they store\u00a0<strong>twice as much carbon as all the world&#8217;s forests combined<\/strong>\u00a0. Their preservation plays a key role in combating climate change and sustainable water management.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, they allow:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Regulate floods and limit flooding<\/strong>\u00a0by absorbing water during periods of heavy rain.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Filter and improve water quality<\/strong>\u00a0by retaining some of the pollutants.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Home to exceptional biodiversity<\/strong>\u00a0, with many rare plant and animal species.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Capturing and storing CO\u2082<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0sustainably.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unfortunately, these environments are weakened by the evolution of vegetation and human activities. Without intervention, their capacity to fulfill these roles gradually diminishes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"type-h3\"><strong>Actions carried out in 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Led by the ONF since 2021, the peatland restoration project aims to restore their hydrological balance. This first year of engagement on the ground has enabled progress on several fronts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Protection of sensitive sites<\/strong>\u00a0: installation of fences to preserve vegetation and limit damage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rehabilitation of hydraulic structures<\/strong>\u00a0: restoration of natural water flows to prevent the drying out of peat bogs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maintenance of road permeabilization areas<\/strong>\u00a0: improvement of water infiltration and limitation of soil erosion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These actions, carried out in an environment that is difficult to access, contribute directly to the preservation of water resources, the improvement of biodiversity and the strengthening of carbon storage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-13436 size-full\" style=\"font-family: inherit;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scalian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13432\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scalian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scalian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13440\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scalian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo credits: ONF<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"type-h3\"><strong>A long-term commitment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Scalian, we are convinced that the ecological transition requires concrete commitments.
